Katelyn Barham

Associate

Katelyn graduated cum laude from Rhodes College with a degree in Spanish. After graduation, she helped run her family business and eventually started her own business. She quickly learned the positive impact attorneys can have in the business community and how critical it is to have excellent representation. She pursued a law degree and graduated in the top 20% of her Belmont University College of Law class where she won numerous awards and was an active member of the Belmont Law Review, the Moot Court Team, and a member of the Dean’s Scholars Program. She used her summers to learn as much as possible through clerkships, summer associate positions, research positions, and a fellowship.

As an Associate at Meridian, Katelyn plays a critical role in helping our clients. Her practice areas include employment and business litigation and insurance defense. According to Meridian’s Managing Member, Tom Shumate, “Katelyn is an exceptional attorney who will only get better the longer she practices. She has the perfect blend of professionalism, positive attitude, and dedication to the firm’s mission of serving its clients at the highest possible level.” Further, her research and writing are exceptional, and she understands that the details matter. One of her strengths is that she focuses on seeing issues through her clients’ eyes so she can better serve them. She has a soft spot for helping small businesses thrive - she firmly believes they are what makes a city special.

When Katelyn isn’t helping clients, she enjoys taking classes from local small businesses and “learning from the masters,” such as local florists, artists, writers, and chefs. She uses the inspiration from the creative community around her to find unique and innovative solutions to help others. In fact, she is the go-to person in her family if something needs untangling, whether that is a necklace, Christmas lights, or a more complex problem. She claims it is a patience thing, and while that may be part of it, there is so much more that makes Katelyn a master ‘untangler.’ She has wasted no time putting her untangling skills to work for our clients based on her passion, focus, and attention to detail.
