Leah Jensen Bennion

Of counsel

Leah has practiced transactional and securities law for over thirteen years, and as a fourth-generation attorney, she came by it more honestly than most! Leah grew up watching her family practice law at a high level and learning what it takes to be an exceptional attorney. Leah is licensed in Tennessee, Colorado, and Utah, and after practicing in Utah for many years, she moved to Tennessee with her family, where she started and grew a successful solo practice in Franklin, Tennessee.

Leah recently joined Meridian Law in an Of Counsel role and will continue offering her same legal services as the leader of Meridian’s Corporate and Securities Division at Meridian’s Brentwood, Tennessee office. Meridian is excited to expand its corporate practice, and Leah is pleased that Meridian’s broad practice areas and team support will allow her to better serve her existing clients. She also looks forward to the opportunity to mentor younger female attorneys as the firm continues to grow.

Leah brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to Meridian. She has worked with individuals and companies across numerous industries involving a variety of commercial transactions ranging from: entity formation and conversion, intellectual property matters, mergers and acquisitions, securities, licensing, international law, commercial real estate, development agreements, and corporate taxation. “We are thrilled to have Leah on our team,” says Meridian’s Managing Member, Tom Shumate. “Leah has the experience and skillset to grow our corporate and securities practice and to handle mergers, acquisitions, and other complex transactions. She is the perfect fit for our client-centric culture.”

Before her career in law, Leah worked as a magazine editor and as a copywriter for a global advertising agency. Leah believes her passion for language has made her a better advocate: “Words are powerful. Interpreting and drafting legal documents requires intense scrutiny on word choice and sentence structure upon which contracts can be made or broken. I enjoy the challenge of crafting the best language possible.” Having lived in cities across the eastern and western United States, as well as several foreign countries—including Glasgow, Scotland, and Nagano, Japan Leah is happy to now call Tennessee home.

Leah received her J.D. from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law and her B.A. from the University of Utah. When she is not helping her clients, Leah enjoys spending time with her family, running, hiking, volunteering in her community, and traveling. As impressive as her legal background is, don’t think that Leah’s knowledge starts and ends with the law. She also is well-versed in the latest and greatest non-fiction books and her repertoire of movie quotes is unparalleled. If you don’t believe her, she asserts: “You can’t handle the truth!”
