Tom Shumate is a Rule 31 Listed General Civil Mediator. He has litigated civil cases in Tennessee for over 20 years. Although Mr. Shumate can mediate any civil case, he has represented plaintiffs and defendants and employers and employees in the following areas, so he is aware of the unique issues and concerns affecting both parties in the following types of cases:

  • Disputes involving non-competition agreements and other restrictive covenants such as non-solicitation and non-disclosure agreements;

  • Disputes involving the alleged misappropriation of trade secrets;

  • Disputes involving business torts such as interference with business relations, common law and statutory interference with contractual relations, and breach of fiduciary duties;

  • Disputes involving the interpretation and enforcement of employment, independent contractor, and severance agreements;

  • Employment disputes;

  • Wage and hour disputes; and

  • Personal injury cases.
